The facts in this article I find OUTRAGEOUS!! Why should shellfish fisherman be allowed to successfully lobby the Government of California to make the waters in Southern California, otter-free? This situation is similar to what is happening in Taiji Japan at the present time where selfish humans are killing and catching dolphins because they do not want to share the food resources of the ocean with the dolphins there!!! How are otters (and dolphins) supposed to live in conditions where they are not permitted to freely swim and move where existing food sources are available?? Why don't otters have the same protection afforded by the Endangered Species Act or Marine Mammal Protection act as other species??

It seems the human species gets more and more selfish every day! We have no right to stop other species from acting in their natural way, for profit/financial reasons or any other reason for that matter! And sea otters and dolphins are only two of the species which are being forced to change their natural way of life because of the Human species! Humans are not only out of control in terms of having too many children in this World, but now not only are we overpopulating the planet at the expense of other animal and plant life, some of us are also trying to kick out other species from their natural habitats for greedy and selfish reasons! If you live in California and are a nature and animal lover, you need to tell your State Goverment that you are not going to stand for behavior like this from them! Reading about human behavior like this makes me even more convinced that animal species otther than our own deserve rights, protected rights under the law of a country, state, province or city, so that humans like these shellfish fisherman cannot deny
an animal the right to live as Mother Nature intended the species to live!! If there are "too many" sea otters living in South Calfornia waters, it is only because humans there have wiped out the natural predators of the Sea otter species: ie. Sharks ("In California, great white sharks are sea otters’ primary predators. In Alaska, killer whales seem to be eating more sea otters, perhaps because their usual prey (seals and sea lions) are becoming more scarce.
