Acidifying Oceans could hit California mussels, a key species

To read an article entitled, "Acidifying oceans could hit California mussels, a key species" please click on the following link:http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2011-07/uoc--aoc071211.php Why am I asking you to read this article  and tell your friends and family about what I am about to provide you with?
Please continue reading to find out! Firstly I think it is important that we firstly define what "Ocean acidification" is.

"Ocean acidification is the reduction of ocean pH due to the absorption of anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) released from the burning of fossil fuels, into surface seawaters." The fact of the matter is this:

‎"Present-day atmospheric CO2 is almost 40% higher than pre-industrial levels due to human fossil-fuel combustion and deforestation, and atmospheric CO2 could reach double or triple historical levels by the end of the century." (Source:http://www.reefresilience.org/Toolkit_Coral/COAa1_OceanAcidCauses.html)

What do experts say about this situation?

"Reducing CO 2 emissions is the only way of reducing ocean acidification." source:http://www.mccip.org.uk/annual-report-card/2007-2008/marine-environment/acidification.aspx

Dr Richard Feely: "Ocean acidification is caused by excessive CO2 emissions from fossil-fuel burning. Collectively, all the countries in the world release about 7 billion metric tons of carbon as CO2 into the atmosphere each year. The oceans take up about 2 billion tons of carbon annually. This means that as long as we continue to release excessive amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere the oceans will continue to undergo ocean acidification. Consequently, no one group or nation can reduce ocean acidification. All nations must work together to solve this problem." Source:http://www.thew2o.net/events/oceans/oa_q_and_a.php I think it is time for all of us on this planet to set aside our differences and start to work together to reduce our CO2 emissions! This is as profound a warning as we should need to change how we act towards each other and towards this planet!

To learn more about Ocean acidification please watch the following video: "Acid Test: The Global Challenge of Ocean Acidification" This video is 21 minutes in length and is extremely educational concerning this issue: source of  video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cqCvcX7buo Thank you for taking the time to listen to this important message! If you care about this World and the life on it (and I know you do!) please try and reduce your CO2 imprint on this planet. Here is a link to a website which will tell you 10 ways you can reduce your carbon imprint: http://www.less-co2.co.uk/show-story.asp?story_ID=84  Thank you for listening, in reality you are not listening to me but to the Earth and what it is telling us all!
