The largest open chess tournament in the World, the Aeroflot open, begins on Tuesday in Moscow. This tournament always attracts some of the best players in chess, due to its prize fund. The players have been assigned into 3 tournaments, A,B, and C based upon their rating. The highest-rated player in this Year's tournaments is Armenian GM Sergei Movsesian (pictured above) whose elo is 2721.
Among those playing in the Open (in the A section) is Canadian GM Mark Bluvshtein (pictured above) whose elo is 2590. Update: Apparently GM Gata Kamsky has also entered the tournament, and in doing so he becomes the top-rated player ahead of Movsesian, as Kamsky's elo is 2730. In round one Mark Bluvshtein has the white pieces on board nine against GM Dmitry Andreikin, of Russia whose elo is 2689. The A,B, and C tournaments are all 9 rounds in length.
