Human behavior linked to deafness in clown fish!!

"Clownfish are native to wide ranges of the warm waters of the Pacific; some species ranges overlap others. Clownfish are not found in the Atlantic Ocean. Clownfish live in a mutual relationship with sea anemones, or in some case settle in some varieties of soft corals, or large polyp stony corals. Once an anemone or coral has been adopted, the clownfish will defend it vigorously" Source of text and image: .http://masc2279.no-ip.org/Plone/cornerreef/aquarium-fish/salt-water/clownfish-sometimes-excluding-the-maroon-clown-which-can-grow-very-aggressive-and-territorial

In an article entitled,"Ocean Acidification Leaves Clownfish Deaf to Predators" which you can read by clicking on the following link:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/05/110531201221.htm

is it stated that:

"Baby clownfish use hearing to detect and avoid predator-rich coral reefs during the daytime, but new research from the University of Bristol demonstrates that ocean acidification could threaten this crucial behavior within the next few decades."
"Since the Industrial Revolution, over half of all the CO2 produced by burning fossil fuels has been absorbed by the ocean, making pH drop faster than any time in the last 650,000 years and resulting in ocean acidification. Recent studies have shown that this causes fish to lose their sense of smell, but a new study published in Biology Letters shows that fish hearing is also compromised."

Once again we see that humans are causing havoc within another area of the planet, this time the oceans! If the clownfish species are losing their sense of smell and hearing due to the burning of fossil fuels, then surely other fish and other life in the oceans are losing their senses of smell and hearing due to this human activity! This new finding certainly suggests that we humans need to find alternative sources of energy besides fossil fuels to power our cars and heat our houses!

"It was estimated by the Energy Information Administration (In the United States) that in 2007 primary sources of energy consisted of petroleum 36.0%, coal 27.4%, natural gas 23.0%, amounting to an 86.4% share for fossil fuels in primary energy consumption in the world. Non-fossil sources in 2006 included hydroelectric 6.3%, nuclear 8.5%, and others (geothermal, solar, tide, wind, wood, waste) amounting to 0.9 percent. World energy consumption was growing about 2.3% per year. The burning of fossil fuels produces around 21.3 billion tonnes (21.3 gigatonnes) of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, but it is estimated that natural processes can only absorb about half of that amount, so there is a net increase of 10.65 billion tonnes of atmospheric carbon dioxide per year (one tonne of atmospheric carbon is equivalent to 44/12 or 3.7 tonnes of carbon dioxide)" (source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fossil_fuel )

Because the automobile is a major contributer to the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, isn't it time that city planners and Government leaders on this planet, find ways to make public  transportation a more attractive alternative to humans? "  "In cities across the globe, the personal automobile is the single greatest polluter, as emissions from a billion vehicles on the road add up to a planet-wide problem!!" (source:http://www.nutramed.com/environment/carsepa.htm    "The largest source of CO2 emissions globally is the combustion of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas in power plants, automobiles, industrial facilities and other sources.A number of specialized industrial production processes and product uses such as mineral production, metal production and the use of petroleum-based products can also lead to CO2 emissions.: (source:http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/emissions/co2_human.html

In addition all nation on this planet need to come together and begin using "carbon-capture" technology to reduce the amount of Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere! The time to start using this technology and the time to reduce your carbon footprint on this planet is now!!
