Wolverines - stuck in an ecological catch-22 | Local News | Rocky Mountain Outlook

This statement in this article certainly caught my eye,

""Currently, wolverines in Alberta “may be at risk” as they are classified as data deficient.“They are not protected in any way,” Fisher said."

Why hasn't the Government of Alberta given more funds to study the population of animals which may be at risk so that if necessary these animals can be protected from becoming extinct? I realize that it is very difficult to track wolverines, however there must be scientific methods which have been developed to increase a researcher's ability to locate and conduct research on wolverines in Alberta.

According to the Government of Alberta's own website, at  http://www.srd.alberta.ca/BioDiversityStewardship/WildSpecies/Mammals/WeaselsRelated/Wolverine.aspx

"Alberta's Endangered Species Conservation Committee identified the wolverine as a Data Deficient in 2001."
In 9 years the wolverine's status as being "data deficient" hasn't changed! This shows a lack of commitment on the part of the Government of Alberta to allocate the necessary funding to allow experts to gain more understanding of the current state of the Wolverine population in our province!

For more information concerning scientific research which is being done relating to Wolverines in Alberta please visit the following website:
